Bramblewood Pittsburgh Wedding | Brittany & Richie

I had the pleasure of getting to know Richie & Brittany over the last few months through a mutual friend (whose wedding I also photographed last year) and let me tell you - this wedding was one to remember! Bramblewood at Simmons Hickory Farm is a gorgeous family owned farm to table barn wedding venue right outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, set on 160 beautiful acres.

One thing that truly was evident throughout the day was Brittany & Richie’s laid back attitude surrounding their wedding day, which I love to see with my couples. While their wedding was certainly beautiful, I could tell during numerous moments of the day that they were just happy to be in the moment, surrounded by their closest family and friends and creating memories of a lifetime.

As a photographer it’s always my goal to try to create the perfect balance between documenting EVERYTHING and making sure I give couples enough space to let them be free to enjoy the day. At one point during Brittany & Richie’s reception, I simply walked away and watched from a distance as Brittany and Richie stood in the corner of the barn together and watched their guests. I had to try to resist the urge to try to capture that moment. But I knew that what I would’ve captured probably wouldn’t have been able to accurately portray what was happening at that time, and I know there is a fine line between capturing just enough to tell the story and letting a couple have the freedom to capture moments themselves as well.

Brittany & Richie, thank you SO much for allowing me to be there for you last weekend and I hope this little glimpse into your day brings back ALL the joy!

Julie & Matt | Romantic St Patrick's Day Lancaster Farm Wedding

Julie & Matt's romantic Lancaster farm wedding at the Country Barn was filled with lots of love by so many friends and family members who gathered to support and celebrate Julie & Matt. Every little detail was thought out to ensure a perfect time for their guests in a comfortable atmosphere.  Low key (but delicious) comfort food choices and lots of beautiful desserts are two things that always make for a great time at a wedding.  What a way to kick off my 2018 wedding season - with clients like this my job is pretty great!

The Feiler wedding started off at the beautiful downtown Lancaster Cork Factory hotel, where Julie & her girls got to spend time relaxing in charming rooms with exposed brick before slipping into the most gorgeous dress!  I absolutely loved the lace detailing on Julie's gown and she couldn't have picked a more perfect dress for her St. Patrick's Day wedding!

The green details in everything from the invitation suite and bridesmaid dresses to the florals, tied in the romantic vibe and subtle St Patrick's Day theme throughout the day.

Lot's of little accents and wood burned details from Twelve Twenty-Nine Supply Co infused throughout the day made for a super personal collection of details that tied in the barn venue perfectly!  Check out their Wedding Services here for more information on how you can get gorgeous custom wedding hangers and more for your big day!

Julie's bridesmaids gifted her with a scrapbook full of memories from each prior to heading to the venue.  I LOVED this idea!

Julie brought a piece of her father with her on her wedding day in the form of a cylinder containing some of his ashes tied into her bouquet.  I love this memorial option for brides who may not have a loved one physically present with them on the wedding day.

Julie chose to do a 'first look' with her brothers upon arriving at The Country Barn wedding venue in Lancaster before walking down the aisle... there may or may not have been a few tears.  A first look doesn't necessarily have to be with your groom, but can also be really special with family members as well!  I highly encourage brides to consider a first look of some sort for your big day!

Signature drink choices like Irish Sangria kept with the St Patty's Day theme!

The simple white & green lanterns and florals were absolutely stunning against the backdrop of the Country Barn - such a romantic statement against the rustic barn walls.  And can we talk about that arbor?  Custom made by James, it was the picture of perfection when paired with the magic touch of The Details Matter Florists.

A late night French fry bar, lots of dancing, and a sparkler exit under the stars to end the night wrapped up a perfect romantic Lancaster farm wedding for Julie & Matt!  Congratulations to the Feilers!

Jessica & Cody | A Rustic Backyard Wedding

In the beginning of September I had the privilege of sharing in Jessica and Cody's rustic backyard wedding, which was an amazingly fun day surrounded by all of their friends and family in their very own backyard!  Every little detail was crafted with care to create a magical setting.  Jessica's infectious smile lit up the entire day from the moment I arrived, and lasted through the night onto the dance floor.

In regards to your wedding day, what are you most looking forward to?
"I'm most looking forward to just being in the moment. I don't want to think about yesterday or tomorrow. I can not wait to just feel beautiful, be surrounded by people who love me, and marry my best friend. I'm looking forward to it all. I really am."

The Proposal:

Cody had a ring for 6 months before he ultimately popped the question while they were on a cruise with Jessica's family, celebrating her sister's 21st birthday.

"My sister insisted manicures, and my mom wouldn't let me anywhere near her luggage bag.  As I was getting around, my sister told me the rings I was wearing looked silly and to take them off; that gave it away! We all had planned on getting a huge group family photo together professionally done and this also happened to be the same night. As we were getting set up how the photographer wanted us, he told only me to sit on this chair and I instantly got butterflies, before even the question or seeing the ring!  Cody was so nervous, it was the cutest thing!  The photographer gave him a look and he got down on one knee and said "Will you marry me?" it was so surreal. The fact that I shared such a special moment with not only Cody but with my family, was absolutely incredible."

"My father died when I was fourteen. It changed my life. When my mom met my step father, she could not have been luckier. My dad was an amazing man, but my step father, he's right there with him. He's been in my life now for 10 years. He will be the man to walk me down the aisle. He by no means takes the place of my dad, but I couldn't have asked for a better man to fill the shoes when I needed it the most. Plus, I would've never got to know Cody the way I did, if it weren't for him."

What's your wedding style?

"I'd have to say my theme is pretty Rustic. Barrels, barn wood, lanterns, wine bottles, mason jars, bulb lights, old fashioned chandeliers, white drapes, lace, burlap, chalk boards, a very rustic feel."

"I had a lot of favorite parts of our wedding day. Walking down the aisle as husband and wife hand in hand was a special moment for me. Also, while Cody and I sat at our head table and looked out at the crowd and got to stop and appreciate all the love and support we had, all the amazing people who got to share in one of the best days of our lives. My last favorite moment was when you took Cody and I over into the field to get our "pretty sky" pictures, I loved that moment. Getting pulled out for some alone time with a pretty sky in a field of green, just something special about that moment in the night." - Jess
"Having Jess's brother Billy do our ceremony was special for her but one of my favorite parts was when he talked about our love languages and how he made a professional ceremony have a little bit of fun too. When Jess's sister Jenna got up and gave her speech something changed for me, all of it got really real and in the moment she touched my heart, I never cry and she made me cry. I'm starting a life with an amazing girl who has an amazing family." - Cody
"Together our favorite part of the day was our first dance. Jess's best friend for many years sang our song, did an amazing job and it was really special for Jess which made it special for Cody. It was our first time without anyone else, where we could stop and say "I love you" and how much we loved the turn out of our big day. We had time to remind each other to live in the moment tonight and have fun doing so. Which I think we did!"

Heather & Brian | Rustic Elegance Barn at Boones Dam Bloomsburg Wedding

Heather and Brian married last Friday at the always beautiful Barn at Boone's Dam in Bloomsburg.  Heather's rustic romance vision fit the venue perfectly and The Details Matter tied the decor and pastel colored florals together for a perfectly elegant barn wedding. I had the opportunity to shoot Heather & Brian's engagement session a few weeks back and was able to see first hand the way that they look at each other, admire one another, and the amount of love and respect they both have.  It's always a pleasure to see a genuine couple and have the opportunity to document such a purely romantic relationship.

My favorite part about their day was probably their love letter ceremony!  It was something different that I hadn't really seen before, and such an awesome idea!  They wrote each other a love letter prior to their wedding and sealed them in a box with a bottle of wine, which they will share with one another on their first anniversary.  They plan to write a new letter each year, and place it in the box to be read the following year with a new bottle of wine.  Such a fun and romantic way to celebrate each other each year and track your relationship.  I absolutely loved it.

What was your favorite part of the day?

Walking down the isle to meet my husband and seeing the look in his eyes....I also loved our first dance when he sang Thomas Rhett "Die a Happy Man" to me.

Do you have any advice for couples planning future weddings?

Enjoy all the planning. Take your time. Remember this day is a once in a lifetime event so take time to take everything's easy to get caught up in how busy the day is. Take the time to look over all those little details you put so much time into creating. And most of all enjoy the time you get to spend with your family and friends.

Heather & Brian | Rural Summer Engagement Session

Heather and Brian are a beautiful couple who have actually known each other for years, but have only been together for about a year and a half and engaged since October.  They've had a whirlwind relationship and a perfectly casual engagement session at home where Brian popped the question by asking for chapstick!

"Brian was already behind me on one knee.....everything went silent and it felt like everything was in slow motion.  I do remember him saying my full name and me saying yes! I am still in shock over it but so happy and blessed to have met such an amazing man!"

Heather requested a location for their engagement session that would complement her wedding venue, The Barn at Boone's Dam in Bloomsburg, PA.  This rural summer engagement session took place in Stillwater and Benton, PA, where we have rolling hills and fields as far as the eye can see!  It was the perfect location to get that country chic look.  My favorite part of the session was Brian asking if he could get down on one knee at the end of our session at sunset.  Of course you can!

Congratulations Heather & Brian... I cannot wait to see you in on your wedding day in July!
